The Trick to Getting Your Kid Dressed Quickly at Hockey

I’m a proud hockey mom and I’ve enjoyed my time in the rink MOST of the time, but some parts of hockey really drive me crazy! There’s the cost, the politics and of course the schedule, but one of the worst parts for me is the change room struggle to get 8 year-old Jayden dressed and undressed for hockey!

Jayden is ALWAYS the last one on the ice and the last one out of the change room after a game or practice! I’ve tried timers, nagging, bribery (he’s a sucker for candy), punishment, rewards, embarrassment, threats. Guess what…they don’t work to get Jayden dressed any faster! I admit that some of his inability to get dressed quickly is the fact that he gets distracted and finds it hard to focus on the one task of getting ready. I know that his ADHD can cause his mind to wander while he’s supposed to be getting ready but I needed to find a way to make this process easier for both of us!

Now that I’m older and wiser after my first season of rep hockey I found a trick to help make change rooms a MUCH happier place for Jayden and me! I was sent a very cool new product from Oneiric that was created by a young female entrepreneur who loves hockey! Emily Rudow is an innovator who at only 26, totally gets that parents want to keep their kids safe and get them dressed quickly!

So, what makes these base-layer pants so different? Oneiric’s patent-pending base pant adds and extra layer of protection over most youth hockey pants! These very well-made, soft pants (worn as an under layer) include; shin-pad pockets, velcro to hold up hockey socks, a built-in pelvic protector, and cut-resistant fabric at the ankles. The unique back-of-the-leg padding is perfect for my son who loves penalties…this extra protection helps with slashing and flying pucks! Of course with the shin-pads able to stay in the base layer, it literally removes a very time consuming step from the process and eliminates the need for Jayden to spend time taping his socks! It literally took 10 minutes off of Jayden’s dressing time.

The new fit took a few practices for Jayden to feel comfortable in his new base layer, but when I asked him his favourite feature, he said the soft fabric and the “socks” at the ankles!

It looks like hockey just got a little easier for the both of us!

Our daughter plays in the boys league and there are a couple other girls that play on her team as well. They are so chatty that they have a tough time getting themselves ready. We as parent feel like the dress police

When Dylan was little we made it a game – first one out of the change room gets to go on the ice first. Now him and his buddies race to get dressed first so they can play before they skate!
