Carrying Precious Cargo

I was about 30 weeks pregnant with my twin boys and my parents had just found the house of their dreams in Fenelon Falls.  I was huge and exhausted and the car was NOT the most comfortable place for me, but I was desperate to follow the whole family on the drive to what was going to be my parent’s new home.

We all followed each other in a cavalcade, taking my Dad’s very well planned route along dirt roads.  We saw several farms, small towns and numerous horses and cows and I remember thinking how long the drive seemed to be.  Ty was almost 4 years old and buckled in the carseat in the back of our Toyota Highlander.  We were having a blast talking about all that we saw along the road.

For some reason, we took a wrong turn and we all had to turn around.  First my Dad and Mom, then my sister and her husband, then it was our turn.  Paul was driving and we made a U turn onto the side of the road to turn around.  All of a sudden we were at a 45 degree angle in a deep ditch.  It all happened so fast and the tall grass was an illusion, making the ditch actually appear to be flat.  We were terrified but as everyone got out of the cars to help us, my thoughts were on Ty and my unborn babies.  How could I save my sweet children?  We all made it out okay, by climbing across the left side of the car and we held each other tight and cried as we realized how close we had come to being hurt.  I was never so happy to hold onto Ty and I refused to leave his side.

About to be a mom to three boys, my heart was pounding as I thought of what could have happened.  My motherhood instincts had kicked in and even though I could barely walk, I did some serious gymnastics to hold onto Ty in the backseat and then climb over the middle console to safety.  Paul, my Dad and my brother-in-law all held the car as we called CAA to tow our truck out of the ditch and pull it to safety.

Motherhood is 24/7, it starts before you hold your baby in your arms and it doesn’t end.  Ever.  We carry precious cargo in our bellies, our arms and our hearts when we are mothers.  I was protected that day by the love of my family, my own instincts and by CAA who helped get us back on the road and able to drive again.

Safety and protection is a gift. Giving 24/7 Roadside Assistance to your Mom is a gift she will understand and appreciate.  With more benefits than ever before for insurance, travel and even shopping, a CAA membership is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day.

Toms and Roots I think. Can I choose two? There are too many good options. That’s horrifying Heather. I am glad you were all okay.
