Yes, I Forgot to be the Tooth Fairy

Mommy fails.  We’ve all been there, but it really doesn’t make it feel any better when you forget something important to your kids!

The other morning, Ty pulled out his own tooth!  He put it in his “Pirate Pete” tooth pillow and we went on about our day.  The “tooth” (pun intended) was that we all forgot about it….until the next morning!

My sweet and very sensitive son woke up and jumped out of bed, screaming, “I want to check what the Tooth Fairy left me“….I wanted to crawl back under the covers when I heard this coming from his room.  SHIT.  Had I really forgotten about the tooth?  How could I have forgotten?  Why hadn’t we talked about it at bedtime last night?

He ran into my room, with eyes full of tears, “She didn’t come, Mommy.  The tooth is still there.  She forgot.

What happened next was actually the worst part.  I lied.  I lied so quickly and easily that if I didn’t feel so damn guilty, I would have actually been impressed with my performance.  When I took to Twitter to make my confession- I loved that my friend Karen, told me that the whole Tooth Fairy thing is a lie anyway..so no biggie!

I told him that since he didn’t make his “tooth” wish just before bed, she didn’t get the wish that tells her to visit a kid’s house (yup, I actually blamed HIM for my mistake).  Well, he fell for it.  He totally took the responsibility and decided to make the wish that night and hoped that she would get the message.  Adding to the guilt, he totally trusted me.  Like, totally.  I can tell him anything and he believes it.  I also mentioned that I sent her a tweet on Twitter to remind her (seriously, there is @ToothFairyCyber on there)!

The funny thing was that Jayden must have wanted to get in on the action, so he worked at his loose tooth until he also pulled it himself!  So, there was NO way I could forget TWO visits from the Tooth Fairy!

Both of my toothless boys put their teeth in the perfect spot for the Tooth Fairy to get it right that night.  And while they were sleeping, a fairy snuck into their rooms and left not only $2 but a nice note with a message for the boys.  When they woke up the next morning, they were so excited to see that I..I mean SHE…had remembered!!!

Please tell me I’m not the only one…. have you ever had a “mommy fail”?

I’ve had many, but I try to put them out of my mind and move on. You had two choices at that point – and I would have chosen the same route as you. Let them hold on to the wonders of childhood as long as you can.

    Hugs, mama!
