A little time for me…

My life is filled with therapy appointments, Gtube feeds, medications, doctor’s appointments, interrupted sleep, hearing aid chasing and asthma masks. While I adore and admire my Zackie (my almost 3 year old beautiful son with special needs), it is certainly exhausting work everyday to care for him, in addition to our two other boys. Sometimes a mommy just needs a bit of a break…and am I lucky that my wonderful husband encouraged me to go!

When I had the opportunity for a girl’s getaway with my best friend by the lake, I was so excited at the possibility of actually sleeping a full night and I was giddy at the thought that I could maybe sleep in until 8am! No waking up to turn off the feeding pump, or sleeping with one foot on the floor in case Zack started coughing and crying.

All mommies need a chance to recharge and reenergize with all the things we juggle everyday. We underestimate the need for time to unwind, relax and connect with other adults.

Here is a list of my little moments of renewal and time for me to relax between the days of keeping it all together…

A glass of chardonnay on a patio.

Manis and Pedis with the girls.

Taking a cup of tea to the backyard and reading.

Grabbing your favorite celebrity magazines and hearing about someone’s else’s crazy life.

A weekend or night getaway with a girlfriend. I chose a FREE getaway at my parent’s house who live at the lake (there is nothing like getting taken care of by your own mom!)

Scrapbooking, making jewelery, creating online photobooks, locking yourself away to do any hobby that you love.

Facebook, twitter (following PTPA) of course! And reconnecting with friends online is a great way to get lost in memories and have some fun.

Take a class once a week; dancing, exercise, cooking class, photography, anything that you enjoy!

Join a book club and commit to that one night out a week.

Create a walking club with your friends.

Remember that a mommy that has sleep and gets to recharge is the best mommy! Take some time for YOU….YOU are worth it!!!!!

    Hi,
I just saw your blog and I am in definite like! I love your statement about special needs children and their parents. I often feel that I am ill equipped to deal with my children’s challenges because of my weaknesses. thanks so much for reminding me that can use me to be the mother my children need! I so needed to hear that today. Thank You!

My 2yr old son loves this dvd. He really gets ivolvned when they jump, hop, jog, and run. It also encourages healthy eating and explains how excercise is good for the body. Even though he doesn’t understand the lesson this dvd is teaching, he really enjoys the physical activity.
