A Family a-Fair for Special Needs

Zack and I had the honour of cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremonies at last night’s Special Needs Family Info Fair hosted by our friends at The Children’s Treatment Network.

Standing with us is our dear friend Sherry and her gorgeous daughter Ashley. I met Sherry when Zack was about to undergo the G-Tube surgery and Sherry guided me through what reality would be like with a feeding tube. We instantly bonded over the immense love we have for our kids and over our passion to make their lives the best they can possibly be! I am so thankful to be on this journey with Sherry along with other women I have met through blogs, facebook and at events. Mothers searching for their own ‘inner supermommy’ who share my optimism, strength and unrelenting determination to do the best for our children.

It was truly a privilege to help put on this event to allow parents an inside look at the incredible services in York, available to our kids. As Zack gets older, he will have every opportunity to play sports, go to camp, get a job and have a cool peer group. While I have always felt comfortable and thrilled with the help we receive now, I did wonder about the future… Zack as a school-age child, teenager and young adult. Paul, my mom and I left the event with the knowledge that Zack will have an amazing and fulfilling future… the future he deserves.

The night was amazing. Full of compliments for me and a chance for Zack to show off! I really found it hard to accept the ‘thank yous’ given to me by the women who run this Network.
How could I not take every opportunity to give back to the organization that has given so much to our family and to our Zack?
How could I not want to help the other parents who, like me, struggle to find the best services to help their kids reach their full potential.
How could I not want to tell every parent to smile, stay positive and know that their child will have access to a world of possibilities?

Thank you to The Network, our dream team, Sherry, my other ‘special mom’ friends, my mom, our nurse, my boys and my honey for making this event so memorable and for being MY cheerleaders.

Mommy, you deserve the accolades…and more! No one sees ALL of the hard work you put into helping Zack and others like Zack. You have an unbelievable amount of strength and passion that fuels you to work long hours conducting research to learn more about our special little guy. YOU are the reason why this family works and why Zack has such an amazing Dream Team. You are a lobbyist, a champion for a great cause and an inspiration. So you can question, but once in a while, it’s nice to be recognized and accept the “thank you” from those who matter most.

It was fun to up on the stage Heather wasn’t it. I’m so glad Dorothy introduced us. It’s so important to have friends that understand what we are going thru. I have to add that your husband is so sweet too lucky you!!! I see you both share amazing writing talents. We have to book time for the pedi/manicure appointments soon.
