‘Twas the Night Before Grade Two

‘Twas the night before Grade Two and all through the room, not a Hamilton was stirring, not even my Groom.

The summer is over the news hard to take, we’ve put away the pool and bought a new rake.

The lunch has been packed with brown bread and lean meat, with carrots the rule if Ty wants a treat.

The supplies are all labelled from his books to his shoe and we have some new pencils, green scissors and glue.

Ty’s teacher is known, she’s great so we hear, I hope she is happy that I love to volunteer.

The clothes are laid out, ripped jeans and a tee, with skulls on a shirt that was not picked by me!

Our Jayden and Ty are tucked under the moon, waiting for musical beds to start soon.

Our Ty is so anxious of storms and of plight, that he might be a visitor in our room tonight.

Jayden, our joker has his soosoo in hand, tossing and turning to his inner rock band.

Zack has watched Elmo from beginning to end, when he wakes us at night we’ll fight who to send.

His Gtube and meds have been done long ago, his mask is complete and his humidifer is low.

My honey and I are lying in bed, with very little energy for what we want said.

We watch a short show with eyes almost right closed, each waiting for the remote, while the other one will doze.

Our dreams will not be of a sugarplum fairy, but of hoping that Ty’s first day back is not scary.

So to all of the parents who are feeling like us, whether the kids they have walk or take the school bus,

when you are starting at one and counting to ten, that’s the number of months ’till it’s summer again!

Happy Back to School!
