Every Hockey Parent or Coach Needs to Watch this Video

As we come to the end of the hockey season for both of our boys, I’ve been reflecting on the lessons we’ve learned during our first year of rep hockey. There have definitely been a lot of highs and lows, friendships made and even some lost, but what matters most is that our son has really enjoyed the year of new experiences and working hard.

There are a lot of articles out about kids who love the game of hockey and inspire us with behaviour that could teach any volunteer a thing or two about keeping the fun of the game in perspective. Like this young boy Matthew Morotta (age 12), whose team lost a game due to a tough call.  While his coach and team skated off angrily and skipped their usually after game routine…Matthew made the brave decision to with the tradition of kneeling at the blue line and ended up bringing the spectators to tears!

OMHA clearly states and regularly shares the expectations when it comes to players, coaches, volunteers, referees and any others associated with the sport. They have a clearn Code of Conduct and asks that all parties complete the “Respect in Sport” online courses before they are allowed to play (love this).

Just as a reminder, the OMHA has created this incredible video from the young PLAYER’S perspective.
