Apple Crisp Recipe that’s easy to make!

It’s apple picking weather so that naturally means it’s apple baking weather too!

Luckily for us, we have a house full of apple picking and eating fans! We usually make it a family annual tradition to go pick apples at a local farm but we missed out on it this year. I did buy some amazingly crisp and fresh mackintosh and fuji apples this past week so that we could still enjoy some fall apple baking together! The kids love to have apples as an after school snack, especially dipped in peanut butter so we always keep our crisper well stocked!

This weekend, Paul came home from his week away so we planned a special dinner, including his favourite apple crisp for dessert. I’ve adapted a recipe to make it so totally fast and easy that I can almost make it during a commercial break! You can try using your favourite apples, but I like baking with mackintosh. The boys loved this special treat and when Paul woke up from his nap on the couch (jet lagged), he enjoyed it with french vanilla ice cream! It is the PERFECT fall after-dinner treat!

Easy Apple Crisp Recipe

Ingredients:

6-8 apples sliced (I used mackintosh)

1/4-1/2 cup water

2 tbsp lemon juice

3/4 cup flour

1 cup brown sugar

1 tbsp cinnamon (or more!)

1/2 cup butter

1 cup oatmeal

Directions:

Put the sliced apples in shallow baking dish with water.  If the apples are juicy, add lemon juice.

Mix the oatmeal, flour, sugar, 1/2 of the butter and cinnamon in a bowl (add extra cinnamon, if you love it like we do!)

easy_apple_crispSet aside the other half of the butter and cut with pastry blender or 2 knives until crumbly.

Assemble in your baking pan (layer of oatmeal, apples, then another oatmeal layer).

Sprinkle butter pieces over top.
