The Next Generation of Basketball Memories with the Raptors 905

When Paul and I started dating in 1995, it was the inaugural season for the Toronto Raptors. We both worked downtown and would walk through the underground to the SkyDome (now called Rogers Centre). It was back in the day when Jordan, Rodman and Pippin came to town with the rest of the Chicago Bulls and when Shaq almost pulled down the net and backboard! We cheered on Damon Stoudamire from our seats in the nose-bleed section and even bumped into him at a downtown nightclub (I’ll save that story for another post!). We both fell in love with basketball (each other), the music they played and the excitement felt by the whole city of Toronto as we joined the NBA.

We love taking our kids to experiences that create family memories that last a lifetime, but we have to be smart about how much we spend on tickets! So to help us stay on budget, we’ve fallen in love with the Marlies hockey games for the last few years and now the same thing has happened with the Toronto Raptors 905 team! Tickets for a family of four can be expensive, but we still want the kids to experience the thrill of going to a game.

The Raptors 905 team is part of the NBA Development League (D-League) and is the official minor league of the NBA. Founded in 2001, the league now features 18 teams with direct affiliations to NBA franchises.

Our family loves that it offers professional basketball at an affordable price in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. The Hershey’s Centre in Mississauga has free parking (!) and is a smaller and more intimate venue. The whole game really caters to the kids and teens (ie. cute cheerleaders for the boys!) with interactive mascot fun, fabulous DJ, halftime court games and even autograph signing sessions!

We would love to attend any of the afternoon/early evening games so the boys can come. The 2:00pm on March 26th would be awesome.

Saturday afternoons are perfect for us. I can’t see the schedule in my phone, but the 26th at 2 would be great!
